By Any Other Name

I have a very dear friend named Sylvia who sometimes calls to pray with me. She is from my church family up in the Panhandle and I love to hear her sweet South American accent when calls on the Father in my behalf. Something she always does is address God by the name that fits what we are praying about. She calls Him Jehovah-Rapha (The LORD who heals).....El Shaddai (God Almighty).....I LOVE this about her. I am also convicted that I don't address God by Who He really is. It would be like my friends and family calling me "hey you" all the time instead of Sarah, Sarah Elizabeth, or even the nicknames my parents and boyfriend call me like Sarahbeth, Missy Red, or Babe. I want people to call me by who I am. I love my name. I love its meaning.
Sarah: Princess
Elizabeth: wholly devoted to God
Therefore: I am a princess wholly devoted to God
So if we want to be called by who we are, how can we not call God by Who He is? He has MANY names--all with such profound meanings......here are a few....
El Elyon: The Most High God
El Roi: The God Who sees me
El De'ot: The God of knowledge
El Sali: The God of my strength
I have added this site which includes the names, meanings, and pronunciations. PLEASE take a look at it.
Here's my challenge for you: in your prayer time, call God by name. Print out a list and lay if before you...call Him by Who He is. It deepens my moments with Him. It makes me realize that I am calling on the El Hannora (awesome God) Who is to be feared. It makes me realize how powerful the name is....and how often it is drug through the mud as a by-word or an exclamation when something good or bad or frustrating happens. Let me know what you think of this, or what name you most love to call Him =)
Because He lives,
Sarah
